Now add a CD

Image
For this "Wierd Day" in class, I ended up in the back parking lot of the school on the hill. I did not follow the instructions of "throwing the disc and seeing where it ended up" that well because I wanted to look for something bright to match the iridescent tone of the disc. So I found the colorful bougainvillea trees. I actually like taking photos of lower vantage points because, for one, I get to sit and for two, the most interesting picture is of things you don't see every day.    The pink pictures were taken in the back parking lot of the school on the hill going upwards. The white flower was located on the left side of the cafeteria in the little square dirt patches. I like how all these photos give off a "dazed" feeling with the slight blur of the CD in the background. I mostly used the CD as a background for the main subject, which was the flowers. I didn't want anyone to know that I was using the disc. The purpose of this

Hand Coloring Trials

Image
As with developing photos, I spent a lot of time painting my film pictures. I started off with a couple of test prints. The color set we used was really strong and dark so we had to dilute it with a lot of water to make the paint look more natural. I found that portraits with a simple background with nothing in it are easier to paint on than pictures with maybe leaves and trees in the background. The lighter and less complex the photo is, the easier it is to paint.

Film Project

Image
The thing I would say I spent the most time practicing this semester is film development. I like to manipulate my photos to make it more interesting to look at. I found myself playing a lot with double, triple, and even quadruple exposure portraits. I also played around with texture on portraits as well.  During this long period, I found that a white background works well if you want to do repetitive exposures. If you wanted to do double exposure with texture and portrait, you would have to get a full silhouette with absolutely no facial features showing. I also noticed that stronger textures like fences and cracks in the groundwork better than flowers and leaves.

The Garden Keepers (Personal Project)

Image
This theme originally came from a picture on Pinterest that I pinned about a year ago. It had a lady holding flowers to her face with harsh lighting. I wanted to base my personal project off of that image but not copy it like in the ITSO project. So I brainstormed and came up with an idea of making a flower mask and painting my models face to make a fuller looking mask. I wanted to experience the process of a full photoshoot. I had to get everything ready myself from the hair and makeup to the outfit and location . Although it was a long process I liked being in control of my own operation.  My shooting location was on my street in Moanalua Valley. It had strong architecture with some signs of nature like leaves and flowers growing out of the walls. We couldn’t go far outside the house because my sister had a basketball game later that day. Since I used my sister as the main model, hat already meant a lot of complaining from her and extreme focus from irritation fro

Best Photo (plus two)

Image
Throughout my four years of photography experience, I have come to notice what specific things I like to shoot and don’t like to shoot. One of my favorite things to shoot is people. Especially when I capture a particular expression. It freezes that memory in time and makes it last forever. This is a picture of my cousins having a blast at my other cousin’s wedding.  This is my best photo I have taken so far; it is a picture of my best friend Aimee. We are at school in t he “garden” area. I call this my “best” photo because its the first photo that made me realize what photography was all about, which is capturing moments and freezing them in time.  In my junior year of high school, we started to learn about double exposure photos to prepare us for the darkroom. As I was experimenting I found that I really like this technique and would love to practice more of it in the future.

End of Quarter Best + 2

Image
This photo was another of the wedding after the ceremony. There was this food truck/van with the cutest employee you will ever meet! I like this photo because it's like a proffesional advertisement shot. I also obviously liked the cute dog in the front as well. This is another picture from the ceremony. I like this one as my bonus because the subjects is clearly defined and the background is a good bokeh. This is my new favorite photograph because I like how my style of portrait photography came out. This picture was taken during my cousins wedding after the ceremony. We saw a big tree that was low enough to sit on and thought it would be a good picture opportunity. Since i've been working with film alot i haven't been spending a lot of time on my digital camera. I think I spent a good 3/4 of the quarter working on film. My overall thougths on film this quarter was very bitter sweet because my roll came out mostly black but the expi
